Hello,
I just received an email from someone saying that they have been able to "hack" their Mio C310x so that they were able to load the latest and greatest IGO maps and about 12 million POIs too. When I asked him how he did that, he said I should start with this site. But, I'm new to all of this, and I really don't even know where to begin. I did, however, try to install Mio's USB driver, but it doesn't load on Vista. Is there a set of basic instructions on how to do all these upgrades, and what is compatible with the Mio C310x ? I greatly appreciate the help. Stephen |

I did have a post here somewhere dedicated to unlocking and upgrading the C310x but even I can't find it anymore, so here goes.
Simple Unlock for the C310 Turn on unit. Take a paper clip or pin and press reset button on bottom of unit ( hole between USB and headphone connection) and at the same time press and hold two middle side buttons ( menu and volume up) You will see a different screen pop up with dialogue boxes. Click OK, and then NO to copy map files. You are now in the windows OS desktop. You can now browse your Mio just like your PC. Simple Hack for Miomap 3.2 Press lower left corner to bring up Menu, click Programs, Windows Explorer. You will now see all directories on the Mio. Your Miomap program is on your flash disk so open this, then open the miomap directory, then miomap folder. Now you will see all the miomap files. To do a simple hack to enable new maps you need to copy in a new miomap.exe file and a new license.db file. They are available here: [Only Registered Users Can See Links . Click Here To Register] D/l to your PC and unrar files. Connect your Mio to PC via USB. If you have Vista it should recognize it right off. If not go to Control Panel, Windows Mobile Center and start. Try unplugging and replugging USB till you get a connection. In dialogue box select Connect without Setting up Device, otherwise it will just freeze. (The WinCe 4.2 core on the Mio 310 is not fully compatible with Win Mobile so this will happen if you try to set up device) Now copy these two files to your miomap folder. If you want you can rename the existing two files to miomap.exeOld and license.dbOld so you can go back if you need to (but you really won't) You will now be able to use all new Miomap or IGO6 maps. The best ones available are the 2007.07 (08.13.07) You will need to find these in the stickys above and d/l to your PC. Unrar and copy to the maps folder in miomap or if you have a SD card installed, set up a maps folder and copy all new maps to here. Mio will automatically find them and use the newst versions. At some point, you can erase the old maps in your Miomap folder to free up space on your flash drive for other maps or programs. If this is all you need, or want, you can reset your Mio with the paper clip, do not press the side buttons and the unit will go back to the Miomap screen. Use the program as before, you will not notice any difference other than you have newer maps. To upgrade Miomap program to v. 3.3 with TTS ( text to speech) I recommend the Quicksilver skin with 3.3 here:[Only Registered Users Can See Links . Click Here To Register] d/l and unrar to PC. Open to Miomap folder, copy to Miomap directory on Flash Disk. Rename existing Miomap to Miomap3.2 or backup the orignal program to your PC . You will need to copy in maps to maps folder in this program ( there are none included) or at least the basemap if you have put other maps onto SD card. Reset you device and you are good to go. Try this out and let us know how you make out. Cheers Last edited by bart851; 09-01-2008 at 11:03 AM. |

Thank you very much.
I successfully got into windows on the device, and my pc did recognize it. (However, file transfer is VERY slow) But I have run into a problem in that your first link does not work for me. Is there anyway you can get me the correct link to those files? If so, I'm looking forward to an updated GPS. Thank you, Stephen |

I just retried that link and it works OK for me.
The 310 uses only USB 1.1 so yes, it is slow for large files. When copying large map files it is best to copy direct to SD card with card reader and PC. After any changes to SD card you need to reset Mio to initialize the changes. |

Thanx
I've upgraded to v3.3; so I don't think I need the first link anymore. I'm downloading new maps right now, but I think they're going to be too big. I've heard that I can tell it to go to an SD card for the maps, but I've not seen any direction on how to do that. Thank you again for all of your help. I really do appreciate it. Stephen |

I am trying to do the same thing but am having trouble.
i have unlocked my mio c310 canadian with miopocket 2.0 and extracted the files from the miomap 3.3 with TTS quicksilver link above, but when i run miomap from miopocket, it runs the 3.2 version. what am i missing.. does the mio search both the flash disk and the SD card for program executables and maps? can it mix and match? i.e. run miomap 3.3 TTS from the SD card and grab the maps from the flash disk? |

Miomap will search and run maps from either flash disk or SD card but the program must be on the flash disk. With Quicksilver, copy the whole Miomap folder, not just certain files. You need to either overwrite your existing program or rename the original to something else. I just name it miomap3.2 but I could just erase it since I don't go back to it.
With Miopocket you need to look at the path for the Miomap start up icon. I don't use Miopocket too often so can't really help you too much. |

MoreMemoryPlease,
I did explain on how/where to put maps on SD card. Create a Maps folder on the root directory and load all maps to this folder. Miomap will find and use the newest versions automatically. You should have the basemap and maybe your own country in the Miomap program but is not absolutely required. I have basemap , Canada, and USA major roads in the program on Flash Disk and have USA maps on one SD card and all other World maps on another card so I can switch quite easily when needed. This leaves lots of space on Flash to load other programs. If you invest in a few different cards you can have one just for movies, one for MP3s or mix and match. It works for me quite well. |

Hey, sorry I didn't get it the first time.
Anyway, I sure do like the new program with the TTS. And, as soon as I get an SD card, I'll be able to get the updated maps on there too. Mio's site has a compatibility chart that says the C310x can use SD cards up to 4GB, but they never really say that it can't use a larger one. Do you happen to know how big of a card it can use. I was also wondering, if I load the maps on the SD card so I have extra room on the internal memory, what other cool programs are there that I could load on the unit. Maybe I have more than just a GPS. Thank you, Stephen |
