I downloaded the files from the download section, burned them using DVDdecrypter and all went well.Unfortunately when i tried them on my car i got the error message "DVD cannot be read. Please use Volvo Navigation cleaning Disc".But my original discs work just fine (i mean without cleaning!!!).Anyone might have a clue why this is happening?
I would also like to know which version this is because mine is 0820.
Thanks to anyone who responds!

The only program that has e reasonable success rate with these dvd's is Alcohol 120%.
You must also realise that an great veriety of DVD writers will never give you a proper DVD for navigation purposes and neither will a great variety of writable media.
Use Liteon LH 20A1S ofr Plextor Writer (Never NEX, Samsung, Philips or Sony
Take Verbatim DL media, use Alcohol 120% including Booktype DVD-ROM setting and burn with minimum (2.3) speed
Good luck

You can also use Imgburn - I read in another forum.
It could also be your drive in Volvo, who cannot read the disk. Some have to by a new dvd-drive and build in the old set.
Read that on at Volvo forum.
I used a Samsung DVD writer and a DVD+ DL to a friend, do not know yet as it worked.
Will find out.

Does Alcohol change booktype by itself or do i have to use another program to do this?I'm using NEC DVD writer and (yes!) Verbatim DL discs.I'll give it a try using alcohol too but i don't feel like wasting almost 6$ on every disc so i hope it works!!!

Thank you my friend.I already used DVDdecrypter and my disc was burned in DVD-ROM format (Nero says so!).I'll give it a shot using Alcohol+ lots of prayers!I'm beginning to suspect that it may be uncompatible to my model (2003).I asked gpsu about it,but still don't have an answer.
Thank you for your help

just called my kollege and he said, that the new DVD works in his Volvo 50. I made DVD 3 for him to try. Now I will make 1 and 2.

I think it is Volvo V50 - if you find the volvo homesite - its 2006-2006 model

That's why! This version only refers to VOLVO models after the year 2005.Mine is 2003,so it won't work no matter what!Anyways thanks for everything. My only request is if gpsu can find and upload the version for my model year, which i think is kinda hard to find.....
Oh well!!Thanks guys!

Maybe my writer's the problem.I'm using a NEC nd-3540a.Used VERBATIM DL discs, burned at minimum speed using ImgBurn and DVDdecrypter with booktype set to DVD-ROM.Message said that process was completed successfully (i also did a verification).Should i try ( and probably waste) my last blank DVD using Alcohol or simply send it to someone who managed to do it,to do it for me?I'm willing to pay all the costs(shipping, discs, even a little something extra for him!!)I'm really desperate here guys..!I have the original 0820 version but i really need the 0848 if this is the case because it contains crucial updates for my country (Greece)....Please...help....

The problem is not in DVD media but in navigation drive unit. There is no problem ff you put recorded DVD map in 2005 or newer car . But the same map doesn't work in older reader. Cleaning optic and laser sometimes help. If not there is necessary to calibrating or replace laser. I've guy who made this two times for DVD drives from 2003 volvo car. And works great :)

Thank you very much for your answer my friend!I will try it tomorrow!Does any DVD cleaning disc do the job or do i have to use the specific VOLVO cleaning disc?

There lies a great danger in using cleaning discs
Especially in automotive equipment an accumulation of fine particles sand, dust and tar from smoking ,settles on the parts in the car and its interior parts especially when they are also being ventilated.
By using a cleaning disc with brushes these small particles on the laserlens will be more or less used as polishing medium for the sensitive lens with a detrimental effect.

Much easier an safer is to take out the reading unit, open it and clean the lens with a Q-tip with a few drops of alcohol

I don't think "safer" is the word for me!!!!!I'm not really good with hardware electronics so i'd probably damage it!

The subject frequently appears on Volvo forums and 4 out of 5 times the only solution is to replace the DVD unit

Do you have any more info on how to replace the lens and with what type of lens.
